Playing in Sacramento for ONE NIGHT ONLY … Parlor Tango!

Rarely does Sacramento get the chance to listen and dance to live tango music, especially one that features the authentic instrument of the Argentine tango: the bandoneon. The Parlor Tango trio features ODILE LAVAULT on Bandoneon, DAVID MORRIS on Cello, and MARCO CASASOLA on Piano. They are returning to Sacramento on Saturday, January 24, 2009.
For those new to the tango, there will be a beginning tango lesson from 8:00-9:00 p.m., then we'll dance to the beautiful strains of Parlor Tango from 9:00 - midnight. Cost is $20 and includes lesson, dance (to live tango music!), refreshments and appetizers. (Sign up online and get $5 off!)
PARLOR TANGO is dedicated to traditional Argentine tango music composed between 1910 and 1950. Its repertoire of tangos, waltzes and milongas evokes the flavor of black-and-white movies and steamy dance halls. In Paris, the native city of Odile Lavault, tango has been very important since 1912. Traveling Argentine musicians inspired local bands. It became common for French accordion players to play bandoneon as well. Lavault is continuing this tradition Veteran cellist, David Morris, is joining Lavault in her musical adventure. The rich tone of Morris and his extensive experience in improvising in the Baroque repertoire perfectly complement the nostalgic color of the bandoneon. Pianist Marco Casasola brings his youthful energy to assure the rhythmic foundation of the trio. Casasola grew up surrounded by tango music and figured out rapidly how to mix his passion for jazz with his relatives favorite tangos. PARLOR TANGO has performed for ODC Theater, the Navarete/ Kajiyama Dance Company, and tango dancers all over the San Francisco Bay Area.
